Bottom half Brighton take on the champions Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday at 8:15pm.
A win for Brighton, who sit in 15th just five points off the relegation zone, will provide a massive boost in securing their Premier League safety. This season's champions Liverpool may look to field a few youngsters in the clash as they look towards the next campaign.
Liverpool suffered a rare blip in form in their first game as Premier League winners as they lost 4-0 to Man City, but after a convincing 2-0 win against Aston Villa it seems the Reds are back to their winning ways. It’s been a mixed bag of results for Brighton since the return of the Premier League, with a 3-0 loss to Man United coming two games after a big 2-1 win against Arsenal, but a 1-0 victory over Norwich in their last game means they will be riding high coming into a fixture where the odds are stacked against them.
It’s been a one-sided affair when these two sides have met in the past, with Liverpool winning all five of the teams previous Premier League meetings.
Brighton will be monitoring Steven Alzate, who has been out with a groin injury and may not be able to return for the fixture.
Liverpool’s Andy Robertson suffered a knock against Aston Villa but is expected to return for this game.
As much as I would love an upset here, let’s be honest its very unlikely to happen. Liverpool have won the league by 20 odd points and Brighton are looking to consolidate their position in the Premier League. I do have faith in Brighton as a team and Graham Potter’s side have shown positive signs as of late but even if they put in a good performance this outstanding Liverpool side seem to find a way to win games even when they aren’t playing their best football.
